| Dodge Challengers Back in 1970 Dodge came out with the first Plum Crazy Challenger and I just had to have one. With all the hype about the performance of the car in previous years it was one of the cars that people said that they wished they would have kept. After a struggle I was able to keep mine. I couldn’t afford all the big extra’s like the Hemi and manual transmission because it had to be a family car and the wife couldn’t drive a stick. I did have to pay extra for the automatic transmission. The car is still original except for new paint, still Plum Crazy and motor work. The 318 motor now has a four barrel carburetor and duel exhaust. What a difference that made in the performance. The purple color made it a nice show car with several trophies to its name. When Dodge came out with a 40th anniversary Plum Crazy Challenger in 2010 I had to have one of those also. This one has all the bells and whistles that I couldn’t afford in 1970. A 425 HP 6.1 Hemi, cool air intake, sun roof, 20” wheels, Brembo brakes, Navigation system, leather seats and several other additions to the interior. Using the Then & Now theme we try to show the cars together. We don’t win any trophies but sure get a lot of lookers. As far as we can tell we are the only ones with original owners and original color in the United States with these two cars. Lyle DuLac |
